AFFORDABLE ASSISTED LIVING
The VNA of Eastern Massachusetts will open an assisted living residence in Somerville the fall of 1999. The exciting news is that 75% of the 97 units will go to low-income elders through the Group Adult Foster Care program, SSI-G Benefits and a program for elders at risk for homelessness or abuse. 25% of the units are reserved for Somerville residents.
All the units will be single bedroom suites with 500 square feet of space. The rent will not increase for two people live in a one-bedroom, but the second person will still have to pay for their services. The services provided are comparable to other assisted living programs. An adult day health program will run on the first floor of the building.
Keep in mind that the opening date for the facility is not set in stone. There may be delays so people should be prepared to wait or make appropriate arrangements elsewhere if they cannot wait. Liz Moore, Community Relations Liaison, is taking names of interested people and will soon start to pre-qualify individuals. Call Liz at 623-3600 to inquire about the assisted living facility.
