NURSING HOME RATINGS
The CRC has purchased The Inside Guide to America's Nursing Homes: Rankings and ratings for every Nursing Home in the U.S. This 1997 book lists nursing homes by state and ranks them according to Federally mandated standard survey scores. For each facility a list of the health deficiencies cited during the survey process is listed. It also lists total beds, self-reported Alzheimer's beds, percent of Medicaid-supported residents, JCAHO long-term care accreditation (note this does not include sub-acute accreditation), and a fire safety rating.
Keep in mind that though this book can be a useful tool, it should be viewed as just one aspect of a multi-faceted approach to exploring the quality of care provided by a particular facility. One way to use it would be for a potential resident to ask the facility’s administration what has been done to correct the specific deficiencies for which they were cited.
You are welcome to stop by Ellen Forman’s office to take a look at the book or call X6-5807.
