The Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) has set up a Web site listing current inspection records for almost every nursing home in the nation. The HCFA created this Web site so that families could compare more nursing homes without having to visit every home. Visit http://www.medicare.gov/Nursing/Overview.asp. In our opinion this site has more detailed information on deficiencies and how to understand them in proper context than does the Massachusetts site. So use the HCFA site for Mass as well as out of state nursing homes. Hint: when you conduct a search don’t ask for a nursing home by name because it often won’t recognize what you enter. Input the city name and/or zip code. You may then choose from the given list of nursing homes.
