MASSHEALTH NO LONGER COVERS FUNERAL/BURIAL EXPENSES

As announced via e-mail, MassHealth no longer covers funeral or burial expenses. But the same benefits are available for MassHealth recipients through the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA). DTA has previously had funds available for indigent people, and recipients of TAFDC, and EAEDC, so they are just adding MassHealth recipients to the list. The benefits are the same as in the past and the same as under MassHealth- a maximum of $1,100 paid towards a funeral/burial that costs no more than $1,500. Any available assets or death benefits from other sources must be accessed first. There is an application form that can be completed by any party with the necessary information, but the easiest way to access the DTA funds is through the funeral director with whom you are working.
