HEATWORKS: NEW PROGRAM FOR BOSTON SENIORS

The City of Boston, in partnership with KeySpan and ABCD, has announced a new program called HeatWorks. The goal of this program is to reduce the number of no-heat emergencies by helping income eligible senior citizens weatherize their homes before the cold months. Mayor Menino commented on this new initiative stating that it is the elderly who often have the most difficulty during the winter, as they struggle to make home repairs and pay for heat on their limited incomes. This program is an effort to help elders r e pair make costly maintenance repairs associated with heating so that they may remain in their homes. In addition to a new furnace, HeatWorks eligible participants may receive an ABCD energy audit, weatherization and insulation services, technical assistance from construction specialists, other heating related repairs, and grants and 0% interest deferred loans.
