AIDS ACTION UTILITY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Once again the AIDS Action Committee will be offering the Utility Assistance Program. It will run from December first to February 28 th (or until funds are depleted, which ever comes first). The program offers a $500 grant that can be split between primary utilities (gas, oil, electric, but not phone). Payments are made directly to the utility.
Eligibility (applicants must meet all of these criteria):
- HIV+
- Name on utility bills must match lease or tenancy verification form
- Combined household income not more than the HUD “very low income guidelines”*
- Live in Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Middlesex, Worcester, Bristol or Plymouth county (i.e., not western MA or the Cape & Islands).
*Depends where one lives, for an individual ranges between $22,150 for resident of Fitchburg or Leominster, to $28,950 for Boston resident (FY 05). See chart at http://www.huduser.org/Datasets/IL/IL05/ma_FY2005.pdf .
