HEALTH REFORM – CURRENT AND UPCOMING PRODUCTS
There are three categories of Massachusetts Health Reform related plans available now or in the near future.
Commonwealth Care:
(Subsidized by the State)
Available now.To qualify for Commonwealth Care, individuals must:
- Be a U.S. Citizen, qualified alien or legal immigrant
- Have income up to 300% of the Federal Poverty Level (i.e., $60,000 annual income for a family of 4).
- Not have access to employer-sponsored coverage or subsidized insurance, including MassHealth or Medicare.
Plans are offered through the Connector* by the four Medicaid Managed Care Organizations:
- Neighborhood Health Plan
- Network Health
- BMC HealthNet
- Fallon Community Health Plan
Commonwealth Choice:
(Unsubsidized Plans)
Available in May 2007 for coverage effective July 1st.
- For any individuals with income above 300% of the Federal Poverty Level who do not have access to employer- sponsored coverage and for employers with 50 or fewer employees.
- Offered through the Connector and in the general market by private insurers such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Harvard Pilgrim and Tufts.
Young Adult Plans:
Available in May 2007 for coverage effective July 1st.
- For young adults 19 - 26 years old.
- Offered only through the Connector.
