Program Highlight : TYPES OF SUBSIDIZED HOUSING AND HOW TO LOCATE THEM USING HOUSINGWORKS.NET

Did you know that there subsidized housing options that are not part of a housing authority or the MassHousing White book? For example, there is subsidized housing funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture! Though usually this housing is located in small towns and rural areas; a lot of this housing is reserved for elderly persons or disabled persons of any age, but some of it is targeted to families or individuals of any age.

There is also subsidized housing from the HUD Blue book, which is not part of any Housing Authority, and is also not part of the MassHousing inventory. These options are both available on the HousingWorks website: www.housingworks.net.
HousingWorks offers free, online trainings on the website EVERY WEDNESDAY morning at 10:00 AM. Fill out the following form, fax it and they’ll set it up: http://www.housingworks.net/static/WebTrainAdvo.pdf.

The site and most content is free. There is also a membership available for $150/year that allows you to complete applications online and gives access to a network of housing advocates who also use the system.

Clients with access to the internet can also use the site themselves. Instructions are on the main page of the HousingWorks website. The link is called: "Applicants: How to search for housing” or go directly to: http://www.housingworks.net/static/HW-Search.pdf.
