Program Highlight: Virginia Thurston Healing Garden
“To provide a healing environment to those experiencing breast cancer, with no financial barriers to treatment”
When Ginny Thurston was diagnosed with breast cancer, she discovered that she found comfort spending time mediating in her garden, and when she passed away in 1999, Bill wanted to keep her spirit alive by helping other people with breast cancer. In this effort, he established the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden in memory of his beloved wife. With the guidance of licensed mental health professionals, Bill was able to create a center within the beauty of nature where psychosocial support and complementary therapies could be provided free of charge. The Healing Garden’s wide range of holistically based services includes acupuncture, biofeedback, guided imagery, and nutritional counseling among many other types of therapies. The program also hosts many special events and seminars throughout the year.
