DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE ARE INPATIENT HOSPICE FACILITIES?

As you are aware, the main U.S. hospice program service model offers supportive care in the home and requires a primary caretaker. But what happens when there is no caretaker or the patient’s loved ones just aren’t able to provide the needed care? In Massachusetts there is a small, but growing, number of residential hospice facilities for these situations. Typically they are in houses renovated for this purpose. They are able to bill the patient’s insurance for the medical care provided (under the hospice benefit) and the patient pays for room and board. See the attached list of Massachusetts residential hospice programs.
