IMMIGRANT DETENTION LEGISLATION
The Detainee Basic Medical Care Act has been introduced in both the House and Senate (HR 5950 and S 3005). It would require the Department of Homeland Security to implement procedures that provide better care to detainees as well as improve oversight of the medical care system. There is a good chance it could pass this year. (see summary here)

Senators Lieberman, Brownback, Kennedy, and Hagel introduced the Secure and Safe Detention and Asylum Act (S. 3114).
