Avoid Driver's License Expiration

Massachusetts no longer sends a letter in the mail notifying residents when their driver's license will expire. Due to the termination of this notification letter, many people have been operating motor vehicles with expired licenses which is a misdemeanor, not to mention embarrassing.

Massachusetts residents can now avoid this by signing-up to receive an email or text message when their driver's license is about to expire. The Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) has partnered with Sendza, an outside firm that will deliver the automatic reminder at no cost to the individual or the Commonwealth.

One must sign-up at least 45 days before the license or ID expiration date. For each renewal period, the service will deliver only one reminder notice approximately 30 days prior to the pending expiration date
