DTA Management Level Contacts
Greater Boston Legal Service’s (GBLS) Welfare Unit recently facilitated a meeting between MGH Social Services’ Community Resource Center (CRC) Staff, GBLS staff and John Shirley, Eastern Regional Director for Field Operations, Mass. Department of Transitional Assistance. MGH staff had the opportunity to describe our population and the barriers faced by those who have a new disability or worsening of an illness and may be hospitalized while trying to navigate the system to apply for or maintain welfare benefits. EAEDC and TAFDC are the two welfare programs administered by the state that therefore fall under DTA’s purview. Director Shirley shared a list of DTA management level (directors, assistant directors) contacts and discussed appropriate types of issues to be brought to the attention of staff at that level in the organization. Social Service staff who are advocating for clients with DTA who have issues that have not been resolved by working with the DTA case worker (examples might include if a client has been turned away for lack of an interpreter, or DTA has not been willing to take a phone application for a hospitalized patient) can contact the CRC for consultation and for the appropriate DTA management contact information. Please contact Samantha Gallant x6-8182 or Ellen Forman x6-5807.
