MGH Violence Intervention Advocate

Editor’s note: This story was inadvertently omitted from last month’s Victim’s Compensation article.

Amanda Breen, MGH Violence Intervention Advocate, initiated and facilitated bringing staff from Victim Compensation to speak at the MGH. At the talk she briefly explained her role at MGH. She is based in the Emergency Department and works with young people (generally age 15-25) who are the victims of violence. She can see them anywhere in the hospital and is able to follow them to the community to provide crisis intervention and stabilization services. She shared some examples of the breadth and flexibility of her role; she has helped patients to get into GED programs, get jobs, and go back to school. She welcomes referrals from throughout the hospital.
