New Mixed-Income Assisted Living
The Susan S. Bailis Assisted Living Community will be opening in March of 2003, and is currently accepting applications for residency. It is an 82-unit mixed-income assisted living facility located in the Fenway area of Boston. The Community includes 27 low-income units, 27 moderate-income units, and 28 market-rate units. Special features include underground parking, a common library, music room, and a small café and outdoor terrace.

The assisted living facility is named for Susan S. Bailis, LICSW, who died of breast cancer in 2000. She was former Director of the Tufts-New England Medical Center's Department of Social Work Services, where she was an advocate for the elderly. She was also co-president and co-CEO of Solomont/Bailis Ventures, specialists in long-term care and senior living. Susan Bailis founded the Silent Spring Institute, which supports research into the environmental causes of breast cancer.
The Susan S. Bailis Assisted Living Community is a project of the Fenway Community Development Corporation, an organization which develops affordable housing, job-training pro-grams and finds community-based solutions to neighborhood issues.
