ADDITIONS TO CRC HOLDINGS
A Spanish version of the pamphlet, "Emergency Assistance to Elderly, Disabled, and Children: Basic Benefits of the EAEDC Program" is now available. It contains the same information as its English counterpart, eligibility requirements, application instructions, appeal rights, and a list of free legal services numbers. Distributed by the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute, this pamphlet is accurate as of April, 1999. It can be found on the Resource Wall, lower shelf, directly behind the English version.
A brochure for The Mayor's Health Line, profiled in this newsletter in December 2000. The Mayor's Health Line was developed by the Boston Committee on Health Care Access to help Boston residents obtain access to the health care and health care information they need. They are an Information & Referral service, fielding calls concerning where hospitals and health centers are located in one's neighborhood, the location and availability of sites for breast cancer screening and flu shots, information about public cash assistance and insurance programs, and referrals to social service agencies and programs that provide meals, housing, transportation, etc. This brochure contains the above information in three different languages. It also contains Mayor's Health Line contact information and a list of telephone numbers for other helpful health-related programs and organizations. Consider this as a possible addition to a display in your patient waiting areas. A copy may be obtained by calling Joscelyn Ruelle-Kersker at x6-8182.
"Health Care Access for Immigrants and Refugees: A Guide to Understanding Eligibility for Health Care In Massachusetts". Prepared by The Access Project and Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition and published in December 2000, this is a comprehensive resource to determine if immigrant and refugee patients (including those "without proof of status") are eligible for health care coverage and to ensure they get the most appropriate level of benefits. Also covers topics such as Public Charge, Affidavit of Support, Sponsor Deeming, Verification and Reporting requirements. The training associated with this document was the basis for a MGH Community News supplement (Immigrant Health Access, November 2000). This very important guide can be reviewed in the CRC.
