MASS REHAB CUTS
In an article in The Boston Globe, of 1/31/02, Janna Zwerner, Mass. Rehab. Chief of
staff is quoted as saying due to federal and state budget cuts "we will not provide any services for any
new persons for the rest of the (fiscal) year….Our doors are closed." The waiting list for new applicants
is expected to grow from 3,500 to 5,000 people and to an average wait of about one year for federally funded
programs. The 2,800 people on waitlists for state funded programs may wait indefinitely if an amendment to
state's supplemental budget is not included.
