NEW MADD VICTIM SERVICES COORDINATOR

Did you know that Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) offers victim assistance to all persons victimized by drunk driving crashes? Victim Services Coordinators can provide emotional support, information and referral, advocacy through the court system, assistance in filling out an application for Crime Victims Compensation and copies of MADD's publications. Sample titles of MADD brochures: Victim Information Packet (guide through the criminal justice system), Helping Children Cope With Death; We Hurt Too (for adult siblings of someone killed); Closed Head Injury: A Common Complication Of Vehicular Crashes; How You Can Help (for family and friends) and Will It Always Feel This Way? (for parents whose child has been killed). Examples of how advocates can help with the criminal justice system include helping victims obtain the crash report and offender's driving record, information about drunk driving laws and victim rights, referral to civil attorneys if desired, preparing a Victim Impact Statement and accompanying the victim to court.
