Program Highlight: Korean Church of Boston Care Team

The Korean Church of Boston(PCUSA), located in Brookline near the Longwood medical area, is introducing a new program- the Care Team. Last year a Korean high-school student visiting Boston was hospitalized due to a sudden illness. A nurse contacted the church. The church and members of the almost 700 member congregation were able to organize and assist with transportation, a temporary home-stay, and familiar Korean food. That experience led them to create the Care Team program in March 2002. The senior pastor, Rev. Young Ghil Lee hopes that the Korean Church will be given the opportunity to serve Korean patients in Brookline & Boston area hospitals. They are encouraging hospitals to refer any patients from Korea and they will help in any way they can. Services they may offer include food, transportation, translation, hospitality, emotional/spiritual support and cultural translation/advocacy. They are also willing to consider referrals of non-Korean international patients on a case-by-case basis. For referrals or information contact Kyungmoon Yoon at (617) 739-2663 or (617) 359-3002 (cell).

This program is also in IRis and is listed under the keywords: Language/Korean; Immigrant/Interpreting; Special Group: Asian; Transportation/Escort and Volunteer/Services
