Social Security Administration Online Applications

Social Security Administration Online Applications

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is accepting applications for disability, retirement benefits and spousal benefits on their website - www.ssa.gov/onlineservices. The application must be printed out, and the applicant must sign the forms and mail them in within six months of the Internet submission, however, the date of the electronic submission serves as the filing date of the application. The website allows applicants to check the status of their application, as well as providing other services. These include estimating one's benefit amount, checking for benefit eligibility, requesting Social Security Statement, requesting a replacement Medicare card, changing one's address, and adding or changing direct deposit information.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) applications and benefits for children, however, cannot be submitted over the Internet.
