MASSHEALTH FOR BABIES OF WOMEN RECEIVING MASSHEALTH LIMITED
Effective June 8, 2001, the Division of Medical Assistance (DMA) is changing its regulations to provide automatic
eligibility for MassHealth Standard to ba-bies born to women receiving MassHealth Limited on the date of the child's
birth. The child is automatically eligible for one year from the date of birth provided the child continues to
live with the mother.
A child born in this country is a citizen regardless of the mother's immigration status. But in the past, although
these children were eligible for MassHealth Standard, the Division required a separate application. Now all they
require is a notice of birth, the same procedure as for when a baby is born to a mother who receives MassHealth Standard.
-Thanks to Edith Kenneally for explaining the practical application of this new regulation.
