MCPHS Pharmacy Outreach Program (formerly MassMedLine)

MCPHS Pharmacy Outreach Program (formerly MassMedLine) is a program of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences under a contract with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs. MassMedLine's toll-free hotline and website offer advice on free and low-cost prescription drug programs. Trained pharmacists and case managers handle calls about a variety of health and prescription drug-related issues. All consultations are free of charge.

Their pharmacists and trained case managers are able to quickly answer most health-related questions and refer clients to income-appropriate programs. They will assist clients in completing forms and applications, and consult with a client's physician to ensure that the medications being prescribed are the most cost-effective and that drug interactions will not occur. Those who contact generally ask questions concerning drug interactions, their general health, or where they can get prescriptions filled for free or at a low cost. Health care providers and social service professionals are encouraged to use the outreach program to ask questions on behalf of their patients.

In order to expedite calls, MCPHS University Pharmacy Outreach Program asks that clients have ready their financial information including yearly or monthly income and the source of that income and expenses. Depending on the program to which the client is applying, they may need to fill-out additional forms. In many cases immediate turn around is not possible, and it may take up to six weeks before low-cost medication is available to a client.
