BOSTON SENIOR SHUTTLE PILOTS EXTENDED HOURS

The City of Boston's Senior Shuttle is a free van service for Boston residents age 60 and over. Until recently, its hours were generally limited to weekdays 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This posed a problem for many patients with midday appointments, caused strandings and discouraged many from using the program. The Shuttle is currently piloting a program of extending hours on a limited basis until 7:00 p.m. A single driver now works Monday - Friday 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Requests for late day services will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis up to one week in advance (all requests must be called-in at least 3 days in advance). Priority is given to medical appointments.

The Senior Scheduler at the shuttle reports they will try to accommodate emergency trips if they have available drivers. The shuttle has their own concerns about cancellations and asked that, whenever possible, patients or staff notify them if a patient will miss a return trip.
