Health Benefits Counseling
for Elders with Limited English Proficiency
Elder Services of Merrimack Valley has received a grant, from the Administration on Aging, to hire bilingual staff to provide health benefits counseling services to adults with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).
The three year project will make grants to four partnerships between a SHINE (Serving the Health Information Needs of Elders) program and an immigrant-serving community-based organization. One SHINE project already serves Chinese speaking elders and caregivers. The underserved LEP communities to be served through the grant and the community partners are: Spanish (Lawrence COA, the Seaton Asian Center and the Elder Services of Merrimack Valley); Haitian Creole (Haitian American Public Health Initiative and the Health and Social Services Consortium, Inc.); Portuguese (Immigrants Assistance Center and The Middleboro Council on Aging), and Vietnamese (Vietnamese American Civic Association and the Greater Boston Chinese Golden Age Center.
