Legal Immigrant Kids Get Food Stamps

The federal Farm Bill, passed by Congress in 2002, has changed immigrant eligibility rules for federal food stamps; restoring it in stages to certain subcategories of legal immigrants. As of October 1, 2003, the last group of immigrants slated for restoration- children under the age of 18 - become qualified for federal food stamps. This restoration is particularly important in light of the loss of the state food stamp program last year.
