FUEL ASSISTANCE

November 1 is the start of Fuel Assistance season. Individuals or families with gross income up to 175% of poverty ($29,225 for family of 4) may be eligible. This is an expansion of the program, so those who were denied in the past as over-income should re-apply. Renters, even those whose rent includes utilities or live in subsidized housing, and homeowners may be eligible. Those who receive Fuel Assistance automatically receive discounts on their telephone bills and secondary utilities (gas, electric). They also may receive assistance with weatherization, heating system repairs and water/sewer bills. To apply Boston, Brookline and Newton residents should contact ABCD- 357-6012. Outside of Boston: 800-632-8175.

The CRC also has information on alternative fuel assistance programs for those who are over income.
