Program Highlights
- Commonwealth Land Trust Housing Advocacy- Intake Tuesdays-
Held every Tuesday from 10:00AM-2:00PM at 1059 Tremont St. Boston, MA 02120. No appointment is required. (2/24)
- Can assist individuals in the Boston Housing Authority's service area with housing applications.
- To be eligible individuals need to be homeless, living in a shelter (or transitional living situation ex. halfway house), and have a disability. Individuals MUST meet all three criteria to be eligible.
- Hearth- for Elders
This organization identifies, assesses, and provides housing and appropriate stabilization services to homeless men and women, 50 years or older who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. See also: Hearth Program, MGH Community News, April 2010.
- Material Aid and Advocacy Program (MAAP) (formerly American Friends Service Committee: Materials Assistance Program (MAP) MAAP provides adult clothing, shoes, accessories, hygiene kits, survival kits, and housewares including linens, kitchenware dishware and small appliances. They do not carry furniture, children’s items or large appliances and are not able to provide monetary or transportation assistance. At the beginning of the school year they provide students of all ages with backpacks and school supplies. See the "Get Support" page
- Women's Lunch Place - Open Monday - Saturday, 7AM - 2PM Breakfast: 8AM - 10:30AM | Lunch: 12PM - 2PM A nutritious breakfast and lunch, seasonal gear, toiletries, undergarments, feminine hygiene products, and other basic necessities are always available at our 67 Newbury St. location. Advocates provide individualized services to guests to help break the barriers to stable housing. Wellness programs offer substance use recovery and mental health supports, and free medical services are available on-site.
- BAGLY Host Home Program (Boston Alliance of Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer Youth)
- Provides safe temporary housing to LGBTQ+ youth/young adults (ages 18-24) experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Host homes are offered for up to 6 months. More information.
- Youth on Fire
- Drop-in Day Shelter for Homeless LGBT Youth age 14 - 24 in Harvard Square with services and supports ranging from showers, laundry, lockers and voice mail to health and behavioral health services, housing search and information and referral.

- Homeless Students- Massachusetts plans to pilot a free housing program for homeless college students at Bridgewater State, Framingham State, and Worcester State universities and at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, with more funding expected in the future. --The thrift shop sells clothing, furniture, appliances, toys, and household goods at very moderate prices. Those who cannot afford to pay for the items in the thrift shop are provided them, free of charge.
- Respite Homes Program - This program is currently not operational. Healthcare for the Homeless' partner agency, MENTOR, is no longer able to meet the need. If another partner is found Healthcare for the Homeless will inform us. (6/15)
--Foster care for children when a parent needs hospitalization. This is independent of the DCF system, which may allay some parents' concerns that their children will be permanently separated from them.
